Dave Stevens was one the best people I've ever known. He helped me
many times. In 1985, he created this beautiful artwork for the flyers and
programs for a play I wrote based on Orson Welles Mercury Wonder Show for
the GIs in WW2 (I felt compelled to write, direct, produce, star and help build
the props). Dave liked the show--it had five drop dead beautiful actresses in
it--he saw it four times.
Dave drew this poster in exchange for the Steranko Escape issue
of Genii magazine. While he was creating it, he took photos of me
from every angle. He didn't say why. He made my character--me--into
a pivotal character in the Rocketeer saga. Orson is there, and
Houdini, but that's me.
Dave loved magic and he pitched in and helped me again when I directed the Falkensteins in
their play "Disguises." Dave did the art, one of his best friends, Jessie Horsting, did the typeset
and the photo was taken by the Goddess to the right, Rory Flynn. We lost the great Glenn
Falkenstein around the same time we lost Dave.
